  We will build a global Britain that is outward-looking and embraces the world.

  Britain is a great, global, trading nation – one of the world’s largest economies, with strong and fruitful relationships with countries around the world. As we leave the EU, we will embrace the world and seek to build a global, outward-looking Britain that is confident on the world stage.

  The Government’s Plan for Britain seeks to:

  • get on with the job of delivering Brexit, striking the right deal for Britain abroad and forging a new partnership with Europe that gives us control of our borders and our laws
  • help us trade beyond Europe and make Britain a leading advocate for free trade across the world, as we build on our relationships with old friends and new allies
  • continue to meet our commitments by supporting developing countries to help them improve their economies and support their people
  • support our armed forces as they keep our country safe and secure
  • shape decisions across the globe and work to make the world a safer place as we stand up for British values and interests in every part of the world.

  We will build a stronger economy where everyone plays by the same rules.

  As a Government, we have achieved a lot over the last six years – getting the deficit down, delivering a record numbers of jobs, taking the lowest-paid out of tax, and bringing in the National Living Wage – but there is more to do.

  The Government’s Plan for Britain seeks to:

  • continue to bring the deficit down so that the country lives within its means, taking a balanced approach so we also make sure we invest where and when it is needed
  • introduce a modern industrial strategy to encourage and support the key sectors of our economy, providing more opportunities for young people to find high-quality, high-skilled work, and spreading jobs, prosperity and opportunity around the whole country
  • help people with everyday costs and bills by acting to ensure consumer markets work in the way they should
  • crack down on individuals and businesses that abuse the system so that everyone – however big or small – plays by the same rules
  • protect and enhance workers’ rights, ensuring that in a modern, flexible economy people are properly protected at work.

  We will build a fairer society where success is based on merit, not privilege.

  We have started to rebalance our society in favour of ordinary working people, but now need to do more to turn Britain into a union where success is defined by work and talent, not birth or circumstance.

  The Government’s Plan for Britain seeks to:

  • provide access to a good school place for every child – one that gives them the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the future
  • ensure there is control of immigration so that it serves the national interest and is fair to everyone who lives and works in this country
  • deliver one million new homes, so that more people have the chance to own or rent an affordable home of their own
  • continue to invest in the NHS to help people at every stage of their life and support a vital national institution
  • help people who can work get back into work so that our welfare system is fair to those who need it and fair to those who pay for it
  • tackle historic injustices, like racial and gender discrimination, that hold too many people back.

  We believe in the Union – the precious bond between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – and we also believe in a union between all of our citizens, whoever we are and wherever we’re from.

  The Government’s Plan for Britain seeks to:

  • take big decisions when they’re the right decisions for Britain in the long-term – putting our national interest above any other consideration
  • ensure these big decisions benefit the whole country, creating jobs and supporting cities, towns and communities right across the United Kingdom
  • ensure the voices and interests of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are represented as we negotiate to leave the EU
  • actively work to bring people and communities together by promoting policies that support integration and social cohesion
  • promote the values of fairness, responsibility and citizenship to bring people together and build a stronger, fairer Britain.
